Jean Sinclair, MBA, MSBA, CFP®
Jean Sinclair is a Certified Financial Planner® (CFP®) professional and is the Managing Member of Avenue Advisors, LLC, a Fee-Only independent financial advisory firm. Ms. Sinclair’s formal education includes an MBA in Finance and a Master of Science in Business Administration with a specialization in Financial and Tax Planning. Her undergraduate work focused on family studies, social welfare and sociology as preparation for a graduate degree in marriage, family and child counseling. Ms. Sinclair graduated magna cum laude and with distinction in her field of study. She has been an adjunct professor at San Diego State University’s College of Extended Studies and a member of the San Diego State University Financial Planning Program Advisory Board. She is currently a member of the KPBS Planned Giving Advisory Committee and the San Diego Women's Foundation.
Ms. Sinclair is a NAPFA-Registered Financial Advisor and is a past President and Chair of the organization's West Region Board of Directors. She also served on NAPFA's National Board of Directors, chaired the organization's 2006 West Region Conference, and served on the committee for the 2008 NAPFA Advanced Planners Conference. Ms. Sinclair is continuing her involvement with the profession and serves as Co-chair for the NAPFA Women’s Initiative, and is Chair for the 2010 NAPFA West Region Conference. The National Association of Personal Financial Advisors (NAPFA) is the nation’s leading organization of Fee-Only comprehensive financial planning professionals. NAPFA believes that to keep the best interests of clients in mind, neither the advisor nor any related party should receive compensation contingent on the purchase or sale of a financial product.
Ms. Sinclair has contributed to and has been quoted in national and local publications such as The Wall Street Journal, Business Week, Dow Jones Newswire, Money magazine, The San Diego Union-Tribune, Investor’s Business Daily, Financial Planning magazine, Investment News, Hemispheres (United Airlines in-flight magazine), MorningstarAdvisor.com, The NAPFA Advisor, Bloomberg Wealth Manager, Financial Advisor magazine, TheStreet.com and San Diego Parent. In 2008 and 2009 she appeared on the KPBS radio program These Days, serving as an expert on the subjects of couples and money and how to cope with a difficult economy. Ms. Sinclair is also a past Board member for the Institute of Certified Financial Planners (the precursor organization to the Financial Planning Association) in San Diego.
She is currently focusing her efforts on helping her clients achieve happier, more fulfilling lives while simultaneously attaining a more balanced life for herself. To this end, in addition to running her practice and non-profit work, Ms. Sinclair is actively engaged in her hobbies and interests such as horseback riding, taking care of her Thoroughbred mare and Bengal cat (shown below), travel, Pilates, water sports, yoga, reading, and gardening. These activities allow Ms. Sinclair to indulge in her strong love for desserts. Her future plans include pursuing her interests in art, music, writing, and baking.

John Chapra, MBA, MSBA
John Chapra is a registered investment advisor representative with Avenue Advisors, LLC. He assists in the development of investment plans and retirement projections, and performs financial planning research.
He has a Master of Science in Business Administration with an emphasis in Financial and Tax Planning from San Diego State University and an MBA with an emphasis in Finance from the University of San Diego. John entered the financial planning profession in 2005 while pursuing his MSBA, and in 2006, joined Avenue Advisors as a Paraplanner and support person.
Prior to entering the field of finance, John obtained a B.S. in Computer Science (UCSD, summa cum laude) as well as a B.A. in French with a minor in linguistics (SUNY Albany). He has worked for 20 years as a consulting software engineer designing and developing software products. He is also fluent in French and lived in France for four years while studying linguistics at the University of Nice and teaching English as a second language to senior citizens and university students.
John was drawn to financial planning because it allowed him to combine his interest in finance with his desire to interact with and help people. He especially enjoys working with individuals and families to help them define their financial goals and create sound, sensible plans to build wealth.
In his free time, John plays golf, swims, jogs on the beach, reads, and loves to cook.
